Articles like this

demonstrate that articles like this

are completely ludicrous

If you are Putin and the people of Crimea wish to return under Russian rule you would be more than insane to not embrace them. Indeed, even if they did not wish to return to Russian rule the cost of allowing them to remain in the Ukraine would be way too high.

Ultimately Putin has liekly ensured the majority of the Ukraine as eventually returning to them!

The cost of gas increases which the west can do nothing about that will destroy the lifes of the western supporting "citizens"s of the area, will lead to revolution and further referendums to see who becomes what ... Yes there may a portion of The Ukraine which will may stay with the west, but that will only be to save face.

Let's face it, Putin could never allow Sevastopol to be held hostage in negotiations on gas pricing because of its military importance. Without the income from Russia's lease of those facilities Kiev has no chips at the table and as things get worse for a country with already lousy conditions, it is sad to say the average Ukrainian will be claiing the days when they were aligned with Russia to be the good old days.

What everyone can now see is that the emperor has no pants and that American rhetoric does not scare other countries into detrimental action which opposes their own self survival.

The Reuters article would be vastly more credible if the suggestion was, "sacrificing" (if that is what democratic secession is under newspeak) Crimea is necessary so that the potential that Russian allies would not look favourably on further encroachment and how that may affect more significantly an overall impact on global economics.

Be sure Putin will remain diligent in maintaining the support of specifically China but also other allies as he continues to secure Russian interests in the ex Soviet Bloc.
