Abolish the senate and the crooks will vanish, Canadians will save some tax money, and there will be a reduction of government spending

Only in Canada would thieves hire a lawyer to get their jobs back,,,,spare me, you Senators make me sick.

Keep stalling Senate, that way Canadian taxpayers can get even more fed up and vote to abolish the whole thing.

Funny how this illustrious pack of thieves is all of a sudden concerned about due process.. where was the "due process" they followed when they were all stealing as much as they could before getting caught??

Really, we need the Senate to debate weather their peers should be suspended stealing from the Canadian People even thought they admitted to by paying what they stole back. We don't need to suspend three Senators we need to suspend and abolish the Senate

Was the Senate set up in such a naive manner that no one ever thought that a Senator might be corrupt and an embezzler? If there aren't even procedure to remove crooks, I have to wonder about how well the rest of it was set up. This is just another reason to eliminate it.

The Senators are troubled by the process because most of them are scared about losing their job and a fantastic cashcow that they landed when they were appointed. ALL OF THEM should be investigated by an entirely independent commission, and that should be done NOW.

If these 3 Senators are not suspended, it will be the end of the Senate. People of Canada are sick and tired of supporting thieves and scammers that show no remorse and pay no consequence for their illegal actions. This will more than likely also signal the end of Mr. Harper for his part in this scandal.

When they bring charges against all of them I'll take this seriously. As long as Canadians sit on their hands and just cry foul, this is what we will have for a government. If we all refuse to pay our taxes until ALL of this is taken to court, and ALL of the guilty are charged, including Harper. Maybe then we can get some action started for REAL change. Right now we have these criminals telling US how much they can steal, and then deciding for themselves if a few of them might have gone too far. That is not what I want for a government. However that's just my opinion.

It is a shame that the PM, Senators and MPs put their political party before the country. It is disgusting.

Two points struck me on this hearing today. #1 Duffy, in his speech, did not sound like a guy who just asked for sick leave with a doctor's note and #2 I was not surprized that Marjorie LeB. was implicated by him. If you want to know if a person has something to hide; just look at their eyes and body language when asked pointed questions. She acted like a cockroach caught in a spotlight about 3 months ago when questioned by a reporter. Now we have a new loonytune in the person of Colin Kenny for allegedly using his personal assistant to spend roughly half her time on his staff doing personal jobs. There are going to be a lot of people under the Duffy bus in the next little while

Throw the thieves in jail. Its not the ones that tried to cover it up that stole from the tax payers but they are accessorys to the theft. Is it true that if they are suspended criminal charges can't be laid??? Is this how the crooks will escape justice???

Nothing will happen to Duffy, Wallin or any of the other crooked senators stealing from the Canadian public. They are above the laws that normal citizens follow apparently. Harper is a wet noodle, he sits and watches and does nothing. Shame on them all.

abolish the senate , the much needed money could be used for education , or to place a qualified person in each school , or have roving personal in aiding our children cope with the bullying and the many new problems schools are now encountering.The Senate has lived high on the taxpayers money long enough , hardly ever showing up and when there ,sleeping off there fancy meals ect. DO IT NOW do not spend more millions debating, ask the people to vote

Why is it only Patrick, Pamela and Mike being chosen? Liberal Senator Raymond Lavigne is in jail, but still collecting and nothing has said about the other Liberal, Mac Harb.

I understand the desire to abolish the senate, however, I don't like the amount of power the government has in a majority government which can be decided by as little as 30% of the voters, without the senate a Prime Minster, of any party, with a meager 30% of the votes, would have the same power as a dictator and I really don't think it's a good idea, on the other hand, I don't like that there are Liberal Senators and Conservative Senators, I truly think that the house of sober second thought should not have any party affiliation.

We are hearing about questionable conduct about 3 senators and seeing and hearing questionable conduct from the PMO.s office and now the Prime Minister.
This government is loosing credibility to the Canadian people with alleged cover -ups and coercion. Resign the government

Many have to work for 2 years make $90,000, so let's not try to deflect the real reason why you should not be a Senator, passing laws that Canadians have to follow.

The Senat was set up to be a second line of defense for the wealthy and powerful families that controlled upper and lower canada in the 1800's. Its purpose was to be able tp put the brakes on legislation that might diminish their position of power or harm them financially. Like the house of lords it was there for the upper class to defend their priveleges. If there ever was a redundant feature in the Canadian government it would have to be the senate.

Duffy may have triggered/unleashed prorogue #4 by the king of 'greater transparency and accountability!' Yeah, right, Slimy Steve.

After all, it's not like said sociopath will ever take responsibility. Deny, deflect and disappear has worked well for him thus far, hasn't it?

I am sorry but the way I see it the honorable thing to do would have been to pay back the funds in full with interest, tender a resignation and apologize to the affected parties or in other words all Canadians. The legal wrangling that is going on now is a further disgrace. It appears as a shameless and selfish spectacle. It does not appear that there is any concern for the shame that has been brought onto the institution of the senate, the government and the Canadian people. If they want to take this to court they should be prepared to pay the full costs for all sides if the repayment constitutes an admission of guilt and therefore a trial or hearing would be another gratuitous waste of public monies. If you choose to roll the dice and they come up craps you walk away from the table. Please, can anyone tell me what these three have actually done for the good of the country that has treated them so well ( though apparently not good enough) ? What contributions have been made?

Harper appoints these obviously not very bright people, who have verbal fluency talents, to Senate and instructs them to propmote his party. The geniuses fall for it and feel that they are entitled to more money, they know the rules, but they are special. When hell breaks loose, they don't give up and maintain innocence; in their case stealing was justified, they say. It will haunt Harper now, b/c he himself broke the rules appointing these low lifes as Senators.
