Questerre Energy said its second well drilled into the liquids-rich Montney shale formation in Alberta, Canada, has tested at a rate of 1800 barrels of oil equiavelent per day.

The Canadian unconventional explorer completed a 14-stage water-bsaed nitrogen foam fracture stimulation in the 1230-metre horizontal section of the well, located in the Kakwa-Resthaven area of west central Alberta.

After being tested for a 96-hour period, the well was reported to have flowed 974 bpd of condensate and 4.97 million cubic feet of natural gas at a casing pressure of about 1100 psi on choke sizes ranging from 16.67 millimetres to 15.08 millimetres.

A further four-hour test yielded a flow rate of 1324 bpd of condensate and 6.4 mcf of natural gas, Questerre stated.

Questerre chief executive Michael Binnion said in a statement on Monday that the test results were consistent with the results from the company’s first Montney well.

“Although the horizontal section for this well is approximately 85% of the first well, the higher condensate rate validates our view that our land lies in the heart of the liquids-rich fairway for this resource play,” he said.

Production tubing was now being installed, with the well planned to be tied into a third party processing plant by early next year.

Questerre also announced that it had acquired a further three-quarters of a section of land immediately adjacent to where this well was drilled.

The company now holds a 25% interest in the well and in about 43.46 square kilometres of land around it.
