Today it means governments reducing their level of overspending .. ROFLMAO, ROFLMAO ROFLMFAO

cmon ... at minimum austerity must be considered not spending more than you make ... that is, ... not going into debt to maintain your current lifestyle

those whose families grew up during the depression understand that austerity really means spending even less than you make and preparing for a rainy day ... that belt tightening meant a certain amount of going without.

Who is going without ... the only people going without are those who have spent wisely, saved and are now having those savings eroded by inflation and taxes (please use the broad meaning ... fees, licenses etc). Part of what the public (really they are now simply government servants) is going without out is the services that once were provided by government as a normal course of business ... simple things like trash collection, roads, parks and fields ... things built in the common interest but no longer affordable because of the re-allocation of the public purse towards empire building bureacracies, corporate welfare, expensive ceremonies that feed a decadent life style for the elite public "servants".

Elite public "servants" are really today's czars, politburo, secret police ... machiavellian arms .., (and I am not criticizing the brave and selfless front line personnel who have either bought the bill of goods sold by the false patriots or are there because they have no financial option but to risk their lives)

Everything being passed to address the risk of attack by terrorists etc, is really putting into place the ability to control the inevitable revolution by the masses who have been SWINDLED and PROPAGANDIZED into poverty.

Newspeak is everywhere and nothing better illustrates that then the current use of the word austerity.

On the upside the sheople are happily being led to the slaughter and as the lemings fall one by one off the cliff there is another right behind them doing what they do naturally.
