I have owned a couple of the BMO covered call ETFs- Utilities and banks- for a while now. Also a couple of the Horizons ones- Gold Producers and TSX 30- which are more aggressive than BMO. Yields over the last year have been quite good but you must remember that trailing yield is no indication of future yield but my assessment is that, so long as the market is farting around the way it has been the good returns should continue. Somewhere in my research on these I remember reading "if you don't understand what managers are doing with these funds you should not own them" Good advice for pretty much any type of investing, but in this instance implying a higher level of risk.. This has been true of the Gold Producers where the value has sunk along with the underlying portfolio despite a payout of about 15%.
