The article misses an important point. MJ is easy to grow, so there's no way the goverment can get it's claws into it. Good luck trying to produce and tax it like tobacco. Where's the market? Are millions of people going to suddenly start smoking a pack a day? Not likely. Legalize it, and after a brief upsurge consumption will fall back to where it is now. Under legal conditions it's a cottage industry. There just aren't that many people interested in it compared to alcohol or tobacco, and those that are will grow their own. The whole debate's a non-starter IMO. The only reason it's still illegal in Canada is because of the US War on Drugs, and I wouldn't hold my breath on that ever changing.
