My other post takes a kick at explaining why. Interesting to note that none of the public commentary on El Comercio (www.elcomercio.com) sees gold as a national monetary resource. It is almost entirely a polemic between pro and anti mining types.

It will be a long time before I invest there, I do remember very well ARU saga .

If I were to draw a conclusion from this one example, I'd say small countries, especially those dependant on trade and the US dollar, are now weighing their options in the face of global economic crisis. In that environment, gold is an easy target, which is why I avoid all but those countries with strong mining history and strong rule of law. To be more specific - Canada, USA, Australia, Mexico, Chile, Peru and maybe Colombia. The rest, I'm just not interested in.
