When FDR confiscated gold on April 5, 1933 it was the gold miners such as Homestake mining that were the big beneficiaries.
That's an interesting point. If we do return to an international gold/trade standard the search for new gold will be on in earnest. How that plays out would depend on where you are I guess. Some nations will nationalize, others will go the market route but take a good chunk for themselves. Canada, Australia and Mexico would be best, I suppose. Maybe the USA, but you can probably write off most of Africa and Latin America, except maybe Chile and Colombia. I guess the easy way to play it is to own Barrick, Newmont and Goldcorp, and short the hell out of Kinross...LOL!
