I agree with OF although most of my drivel comes direct from my own insane head. In any case a thought I had regarding this specific excerpt
But even some young people who can afford to move out have decided to wait until getting on more solid footing. Prudence, not necessity, has kept them at home.
This trend could be very very important and will continue to badly strain the housing and rental(investmentproperty) market. It also could really take off.
When you consider the "old days" leaving home meant freedom ... that mattered a lot in the day when parents did not want their kids having casual sexual relationships in their home. The stigma of such things is long gone and offspring returning to the nest out of necessity without becoming the child is far more common place in recent times.
Also if the tradition of running from home changes to staying at home with the obvious advantages of increased ability to save for the young person; along with a bit of financial help or personal care for older parents being the benefit to the nest holder, dynamics in North America could change ... after all there is a crazy number of 2000+ sq ft homes and on a worldwide basis Canada probably leads in per capita "monster homes".
Something to think about from a trends and demographics perspective ... things must and will change so being ahead of the curve with fresh perspectives is always a good idea.
