In other societies, those skewing toward socialism, certain rules considered more humane are implemented that strip wealth from Peter to hand-feed to Paul when Paul is unable to feed himself. Unfortunately, on seeing that Paul is managing to get along just fine with less effort, and maybe no effort at all, Mary and Bob and all sorts of less ethically inclined individuals will study the rules and invariably find the loopholes that allow them to hop on the same gravy train.
Next thing you know, Peter is almost alone as he is forced to shovel a greater and greater percentage of the coal into the steam engine of human progress, providing a free ride, or close to it, to Paul, Mary, Bob and, of course, the parasitical bureaucrats who made the rules in the first place
The same old arguments Ad Nauseum.
It seems to me that these diatribes always seem to advocate some sort of variation of the Swiftian proposal. Or otherwise known as, " f*ck you Jack, I'm fireproof."
Human greed crosses all social boundaries, and all vocations, whether you are a teacher, a politician, a corporate chairman, a police officer, fireman nurse, whatever your vocation happens to be.This has never been more obvious than in the last few years. Corporate greed is there because the system allows it, the system allows it because the politicians need it. In the same fashion support for those who cannot support themselves is necessary else our so called democratic system would fall flat on its' face. Again, greed crosses all social boundaries, admittedly there are exceptions but on a relative basis they are very nearly as scarce as hens teeth. Sure, there are millions of us who give our small bit to charities, (I'm not talking about the Gates crowd),
but if offered a $10 bill by a stranger would probably take it whether we needed it or not. Most of us are givers as long as it is not too hard on our own bottom line. The human race is a greedy race and that is not about to change for the foreseeable future. What amuses me and at the same time saddens me is the lengths and so called profound arguments people will make to justify their greed.
