Taking the side of Devil’s Advocate, let’s say that having the Canadian buck not tied to gold, maybe not a bad thing.

Alchemists for eons have tried to make gold from other materials, hey, not possible many say but wait, Gold has been made from Platinum wasn’t it and a real loss leader?

We all personally have seen artificial sapphires and know artificial diamonds exist (De Beers must hate that) so are we more than a few steps from artificial gold?

If the raw materials are cheap like goose poop who would want currency backed by that?

Diamonds are no longer the hardest materialand Lonsdaleite is quite a bit harder than diamonds and as new brilliant minds enter the world stage great changes will take place.

What is of great value today will be changed tomorrow. Aluminum way back used to be highly valued as it was rare but now, is used to ship beer and pop.
