I'm not sure I understand Ben Legerdemain Bernanke correctly. The Government prints bonds. It sells them. It spends the money that it raises from the bond sales financing its' day-to-day activities.
It makes no profits, in fact racking up an impressive deficit. It has no money to speak of in reserve.
Yet it is not printing money when it buys those bonds back? Some long-forgotten trove that the politicians have never noticed and raided over the years?
Where is the money coming from, then?
It could be coming from the future, and no doubt much of it is. But where are the fed's "own money" funds coming from?
I'm shocked that the Chairman of the Federal Reserve would say something so patently false.
