Wrath of the Overlords

Thanks to years of calculated intimidation and high-profile prosecutions, we Americans are frightened little bunnies when it comes to the IRS: the slightest “boo” from the taxman sends us into a faint.

Unless, of course, you run with the politicos, then the IRS is akin to a pet pit bull. You can sic it on your enemies or tell it to heel if it so much as looks askance in your direction.

Whereas the typical mug would have to worry about serving time for evading taxes on hundreds of thousands of dollars, when Rep. Charles Rangel was caught serially cheating the king out of his coin – compounding the offense with the hypocrisy of his steady calls, as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, for raising the taxes on the productive in America – his punishment came down to a censure.

And what form does this dire punishment take? The poor dear congressman had to stand in the well of the House of Representatives for a minute while it was announced that the vote of censure had passed. Having completed the unpleasant business of censuring the longtime prevaricator, the Democrats stood in order to give Rangel a standing ovation.
