Interesting.
I think you and I have a very different take on languages, and possibly on people.
I speak a lot of other languages, and am fluent in Fench. I know that my accent in their language is awful. Even in French, a native speaker knows me as an anglophone who speaks very well. Around the age of 11, our brains become hardwired for a particular language, and we will always have a pronounced accent, no matter how hard we try.
Was this a hardworking individual who was doing their very best? Trying to learn and function in our language, when God only knows if I could even say a word in theirs?
Understanding and appreciating others can be a lot of work at times. But I've always found it to be worthwhile.
