Earlier I was wondering how you could implement a new gold standard, but you know, sometimes the answer is staring you right in the face. Why bother with gold at all? Let's just have a tungsten standard. Tungsten's fairly rare, and with the switch away from tungsten filaments there ought to be enough of it to strike actual coins for circulation.
