Important to note that China has major reserves of lignite coal. When I was there in the 80's the place stunk of the stuff. Pressed into bricks and dried, it was the main source of heat and cooking fuel for millions. Probably still is.
Now, if you can use it for a motor fuel, think what that does to China's energy equation. They are already building nuclear plants to generate electricity, so that frees up the coal. You just might avoid a war with the USA once peak oil really kicks in.
