Fake gold bars! What's next? 2009-11-24

Maybe that's why China stated they would'nt buy the IMF gold when it was announced back in sept. afterwards they said they would only buy gold produced in China . Tec

I swear, these gold conspiracies are more entertaining than the X-Files. Easier to believe too, since they have the "ring of truth" to them, whereas with X-Files you have to suspend disbelief vis-a-vis alien abductions, etc. A bit more of a stretch, that.

I think we've covered whether you can fake gold bars. Answer: yes, well enough to pass cursory inspection but certainly not enough to enter official custody. Of course this says nothing about bars already "in" custody, at which point you'd have to ask, how long has this tungsten scam been around? You'd think it would have surfaced before now, given that the technology's been available for years.

So, next question: Why are these stories appearing now? Forget for a minute whether they're true or not and ask, who stands to gain from them? That seems like the more significant question.

My first guess: anyone looking to buy gold in size without moving the price too much. Hmmm.... now who might that be?

Oh look! The article appeared in China Daily. What a strange coincidence!

...heh.
