About Jesse Livermore - a great story ..Notes from the editor.. Bob Brumell

Many people on various forums fancy themselves as traders. Well perhaps. But to learn about one of the best, read an autobiography by one of the best. It is no longer under copyright so we are happy to offer it here. Jesse was an interesting character who always tried to learn from his mistakes. I'm sure as you read it, you'll find you have made many of the same ones he did. I sure did and sometimes continue doing so. It's a great read and as relevent today as it was 70 years ago. You can find it in the PDF section shown in left column or by clicking here. (Note: large file 1.7 megs) Enjoy it!

A Revised Geoshares - fresh and alive.
Notes from the editor.

It has now been almost one year since we last published our newsletter. As subscribers may recall, we warned in our January 1st issue last year that we saw the markets crumbling and suggested subscribers get out. We also pulled in our shingle and refused to take any new subscribers. By September, all existing subscriptions had expired and we ceased publishing.
We didn't expect the holiday to last as long as it did but it happened. We had one of the worst market meltdowns since the Great Depression. Since then we've had a partial recovery but if history repeats itself, we see another serious dip before a true market stablization occurs. This dip could come at anytime so remain cautious.

Despite these reservations, we are renewing publication and will continue regardless of short term market fluctuations. The reason why is quite simple. Opportunities in coming months and years will be some of the best in our lifetime. Changes will be enormous .... and with change comes great opportunities.

Selling tickets for a ride to hell
Some thought our actions were rash. Perhaps but here is an analogy. If you are on a train which you believe is headed for a wreck, it's wise to get off. To continue selling tickets for a ride on that train is just plain unethical. Many supposed experts now say they didn't see the wreck coming. I sincerely question that. I think they wanted to keep making money regardless of what happened to the passengers. That certainly was true of the sub-prime crowd and the banks who re-packaged their products and obtained bogus ratings from rating agencies so they could sell their toxic paper around the world to one and all. If there was ever proof that it's every man for himself, that was it. Unfortunately, tax payers around the world will pay for that treachery for years to come.

Where we are today
At this point, despite a strong comeback rally, the TSX-V exchange is still down approx 60% from it's previous highs. At one point, it was down over 80%. Big boards fared somewhat better but not much. Against drops of that magnitude, it's virtually impossible to win without shorting or hedging yet we knew from talking with subscribers that most didn't even have short accounts. They only bought long. So the inevitable happened, we hit bottom and many lost heavily. Since that March bottom, markets have since rebounded. Now enthusiasm runs high as punters hope to regain losses. Once again they are jumping into speculative stocks with both feet. Once again, they are only playing the market in one direction. Little has been learned.

What Geoshares can do
In future issues our focus must broaden. While we still enjoy mining and resource stocks, we will be covering more senior stocks and investments. We will urge subscribers to have both U.S. and Canadian dollar long and short accounts. They cost nothing to open. We will be discussing ETFs and other vehicles to spred risk.

Good trading and investing requires being informed. That means reading news and becoming aware of the world around us. This helps us find future trends that can lead to big profits. For that reason, this site is now hosting news from a variety of sources. If you have your own preferred source, that's fine. It's also easy to create your own private news portfolio by using RSS feeds and a feedreader. However you do it, follow world and financial news. That's where it starts. Then we can start the voyage with Geoshares. It will be an interesting trip.
