By Upstream staff
Montreal-based Gastem said its exploration programme on its Magdalen Islands acreage is about to get under way.
The company will begin a 100-square kilometre gravity survey using Excel Geophysics at the end of the month. The Magdalen Islands permit covers 43,300 acres in the lower section of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
Gastem has already acquired and reprocessed 143 kilometres of seismic data shot over the Magdalen Islands from the 1970s and 2002.
"Our review has confirmed that the natural gas potential in the basin and specifically the Magdalen Islands appears to be excellent," Gastem boss Raymond Savoie said in a release.
"As we move forward with the important Utica Shale drill programme in the Saint Lawrence lowlands with Canbriam Energy this summer, the Magdalen Islands Project is shaping up to be a high impact area for Gastem's development."
